It’s been forever since I’ve posted about the house remodel! I’ve covered the laundry room and kitchen so far so the next room is the living room and entryway. Thank goodness there was no wall paper to rip off of the walls in either of these spaces. The color on the walls had a pink tint to it so it had to go, but it wasn’t horrible. The hardest parts were getting to the top of the walls because of our vaulted ceiling and painting the beam that goes across the ceiling.
The before pictures are from the internet listing of the house before we bought it…not our furniture or our taste! The walls don’t look very pink in this picture, but I assure you they had a pink look to them.
This is the view from the hallway. You’re looking into the eat in kitchen area and you can see the built in hutch to the left…love that feature!
In this picture, you’re standing in the eat in kitchen and looking toward the living room.
Here, you’re standing right in front of the fireplace and you get a great view of the built in hutch. Eventually, I want to paint the kitchen cabinet and the built in hutch and soft white…someday!
This is the entryway before…old 80’s style light fixture and a screen door with bars! I felt like I was in jail! The tile right as you step into the entryway is original to the house and has a bit of charm to it. I’m not sure that it will stay forever, but for now it’s fine.
We’ll start in the entryway for the “after” pictures…a light fixture that’s from this decade! YAY! The light fixtures in the entryway, laundry room, kitchen, and dining room all belong to the same family. We got them all on clearance at Lowe’s and couldn’t be happier with them!
We got our family pictures hung in the hallway before I found a sofa table…thankfully, my Aunt Jan had a sofa table that she wasn’t using in her attic!
The sofa table fit perfectly and I added our wall words from Hobby Lobby, some buffet lamps, and a wrought iron candleabra piece. I love to turn the lamps on at night time and enjoy the area…it’s really one of my favorites!
It seemed like it took forever to finish painting the living room. Even though we weren’t covering up a dark color, it still took 2 coats of paint to make it look even. It’s a pretty large living space and we were so glad to have the painting completed in here.
This is the view of the living room from the entryway. I’m not pleased with the mantle area yet, but I just can’t decide what I want up there.
This picture is taken while standing in the kitchen/dining room area. We love the large living space so much…it’s such a change from what we lived in before this house.
This isn’t a good representation of the living room now because I’ve changed it already! There’s now an antique desk under the mirror and candle sconces and I have an arrangement of plates on the wall between the entryway and leading into the hallway. Additionally, we added an area rug under the coffee table. I need to take new pictures and add those!
The living room and entryway didn’t receive quite the dramatic overhaul that some of the other rooms in the house did, but it’s what we wanted for the time being. Eventually, I can see myself wanting to paint the entryway a more dramatic color, but it just wasn’t in the cards during the 2 weeks after closing and before move in. The color on the walls is the exact same color we painted in our rent house…we both liked it, it covered dirt well, and it was one less decision about paint that we had to make so we went with it. We used it above the chair rail and cabinets in the kitchen, as well as down the hallway.
The next room on the tour could be the most shocking…the sponge painted mauve master bedroom and bathroom!
