Hair Trauma

hair before

We had a bit of hair trauma this afternoon.  Paige was in the garage playing (normal for us to let her do that) and I went outside and she had found a pair of my large scissors that I had accidentally left outside.  I took those away from her and she asked for her small scissors…I went inside and got them for her and I think it’s the first time I haven’t reminded her right away that we only cut paper.  I wish I would have!  I went back outside not 2 minutes later to check on her again and she was standing there cutting her hair.  I was very proud of myself for handling it as calmly as I could.  I sent her inside to her bedroom…she was upset immediately because she knew she was only supposed to cut paper and that Miss Michelle ( our stylist) is the only person allowed to cut her hair.  I went inside to talk to her and assess the damage and she kept saying “I apologize, Mommy!”  I knew she was sorry and upset.  I called Michelle and thankfully she didn’t have an appointment at the moment and we headed down to the salon immediately.  We live about 1 minute from her salon.  We ended up having to cut about 6 inches off to even it all out.

hair after She now looks 8 instead of 4.  I’m losing my baby!  I realize it’s only hair and it will grow back, but it’s taken 4 1/2 years to get her hair as long as it was and now it’s just gone.  I’ve had an emotionally exhausting day…today was also her first day of Mother’s Day Out (without me being in the building teaching at the same school!) and now this hair business.  Can we go to bed and start over please?

It's adorable and you'll remember it forever. I'm so proud of you for being such a good mommy.

We feel your pain. Reid cut his own hair too. Props on staying calm...I know it had to be hard. But, her new style is precious!
