Our High School basketball team recently won the State AAAA basketball championship for the 2nd year in a row! We attended as many of the final games as we could (the final game fell on the same weekend as the softball tournament that we host) and as I was watching the games and the cheerleaders (I’m always a critic!) I was taken back to my high school days. I was a cheerleader for 5 years in school (8th grade-12th grade) and during my Sophomore and Junior years our basketball team also won back to back state championships. It was such a fun experience to be cheering on the largest stage in our state…and to come out with the wins!
There’s not much about High School that I’d like to go back to, but being a cheerleader again would definitely be something I’d love to experience just once more.
Lots has changed since my die-hard Panther cheerleader days. Part of me being that die-hard fan was based on the fact that my Dad coached the Panthers the entire time I was in school. He took another job the year after I graduated. It was hard at first to split my devotion between the Panthers and the Warriors but I love it now. Stephen wouldn’t have been able to coach in my hometown had my Dad not moved jobs. We’d be living who knows where right now and I’m sure I’d be homesick. It’s taken many years to get to the peaceful place that I have now about my split devotion. I love being able to say that I’m a die hard Warrior AND Panther fan now!
