Peach Reach 2008

Last weekend our community hosted the annual Peach Festival. It's the typical Southern festival...street dance, vendors selling funnel cakes on the Courthouse square, pageants, and of course...A PARADE! It's not quite complete unless you have a parade. For the past 3 years our church has collected 5,000 bottles of water, iced them down, and passed them out during the parade. It's tons of work, but so much fun! Stephen and I have participated the last 2 years and it's our favorite service with our church by far. I can't wait for the day that Paige is old enough to take part as well. It's a fantastic time of fellowship with our friends and a wonderful outreach opportunity to our community without being pushy...we just offer water bottles to every single person lining the parade route. We have a banner that attaches to the trailors that simply says "FBC...At your service!" We strive to serve our community in the best way possible and during a hot summer parade, free bottles of water are a wonderful service!

Stephen and I before the parade began...Man, I need some lipstick!!!

I didn't get any pictures from this year's parade-this one is from 2006, but you can get the idea...we walk the parade route and hand out water! Jen is going to KILL me for putting a picture of her on here!

Another example of what we were there for!

The Bannings after the parade...needless to say it was HOT! We were thankful that we had freezing cold water bottles to hand out-they kept us halfway cool!

Oh my family loves to see you guys coming down the parade route. I can't imagine how hot you guys get because we are exhausted and we just sit and watch. that is a great way to serve.

As for peach festival...after my city friends read my blog from our trip up, they all want to come up and see it in person. Who knows I might just be bringing up a crew with us.
