She’s a Red-Shirt

Ryan-9months-8947-web

Even though Paige turned 5 on March 24, Stephen and I have decided not to send her to Kindergarten later this month.  Instead, she will attend the United Methodist Church’s Mother’s Day Out program that meets on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday from 8:30-11:30.  For the most part, Stephen and I have been on the same page all along about holding Paige back another year but there have been days that I think we should be sending her.  Paige is very academically and socially ready for Kindergarten.  She is respectful of her elders and of other children.  Basically, she’s ready to go.  BUT, her Dad and I want to keep her at home for another year so she can be more mature at the end of her school career, right before she heads off to college.

We’ve answered questions from others on just about every occasion that the subject comes up.  No one really understands our reasoning and honestly, that’s ok because Stephen and I are in charge of the decisions made for Paige.  We feel like holding her out of school this year will give her an advantage and is the best decision for her and our family.

Selfishly, I’m extremely excited that we aren’t driving up to the school and finding Paige’s name on the class lists today.  However I’m already apprehensive about someone spending more time with my daughter during the day than I do.  I’m thankful I have a year to pray that fear away.
