Stephen and one of his best buddies, Doyle, have been training for a marathon for around 2 years. Injuries have set them back from actually completing one until this past Sunday. They finished their first marathon, The Little Rock Marathon, in 4 hours and 24 minutes...which was 6 minutes under their goal!
Stephen and Doyle coach together and have developed a great friendship since we moved back to my hometown nearly 5 years ago. They balance each other out perfectly...almost like a marriage!!!! Stephen tends to be very energetic, where Doyle is much more subdued. Doyle can anger quickly and Stephen has the patience of a saint (thank goodness, because he balances me out there quite often as well!). Doyle's wife, Mandy, and I are quite good friends also. Our children are 7 weeks apart in age. To say that we all click very well would be an understatement. When we're all together, we laugh until our cheeks literally cramp up. We're so thankful to have friends that we can always count on!
Back to the marathon....Stephen and Doyle had a great time during the first 18 miles of the 26.2, but found the last 8 or so miles to be pretty miserable. I'm so glad they had one another to lean on and find continued support. Goodness knows I'm NOT a runner and have no desire to wake up at 5:00 am to run!!! They said finishing the marathon was the hardest thing either of them have ever done. Stephen did say that I was still tougher than him because I gave birth to an 8.62 pound child!!!!! :)
Here are a few of my favorite pictures from Sunday.....
